If you’re using an Android phone and run into a message stating that your phone is incompatible with the app, you may be using a phablet. Google Play differentiates phones from tablets using screen resolution based on Dots Per Inch (DPI), which could cause your phone to be recognized as a tablet.
Some newer devices will have different DPIs, and may even have the ability to change DPI (for example, Google’s Pixel and Pixel XL phones). Because some phones register in Google Play as tablets, they will be incompatible if the app you’re trying to download does not have a tablet version.
If your device does not fit the description of any of the issues above, clearing the Google play cache may fix the issue. In order to clear the Google Play cache:
- Go to Settings -> Apps -> Google Play Store -> Storage
- Hit Clear Data.
- Hit Clear cache.
- Hit Force stop.
After trying all of the above, if you find that your phone is still incompatible with the app, please feel free to contact Google User Support and let them know the issue, make, and model of your phone.
